We have known for some time now that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Galant are not on particularly good terms.

But over the past few months, there have been reports of a sour relationship between the two over Israel's war strategy in Gaza.

It should be remembered that two days ago (November 5th) Netanyahu announced the dismissal of Yoav Gallant from the post of Defense Minister, saying that there was a 'lack of trust' between them and that at a time when the country was in a state of war. So it is important that the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister are on the same page.

Yoav Gallant has more military experience than Netanyahu.

He started his career as a Navy Commando in 1977. Over time, he rose to become a major general in Israel's Southern Command and oversaw two wars in Gaza from 2005 to 2010.

It is suspected that Gallant's greater experience in military affairs and his respect in the Israeli army made his 'boss' (Netanyahu) feel inferior.

The current government of Israel has hard line views. In the history of the country, there has never been a more far-right government than the current one. However, Yoo Gallant is a little less sarcastic than other ministers of this government, but he is not so merciful that he is mistaken for a saint.

Along with Netanyahu, he also faces possible war crimes charges at the International Criminal Court.

However, when the International Criminal Court sought warrants against them, both men denied charges of committing war crimes in May.

But in recent months, as Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has insisted that Israel should prioritize a hostage-release deal with Hamas and an end to the war in Gaza.

Netanyahu has yet to heed Gallant's point. He is insisting that continued military pressure on Hamas is the best way to free the remaining Israelis.

Gallant has been clamoring for a post-war strategy since early 2024, but to date nothing has fallen on deaf ears.

Gallant continues to say that there should be a broad investigation into the military, political and intelligence lapses behind the October 7, 2023 attack. According to him, this attack by Hamas shows the weakness of the Israeli army.

However, Prime Minister Netanyahu says that this is not the right time to start such an investigation.

One point of disagreement between Gallant and Netanyahu is whether ultra-Orthodox Jewish students studying religious studies should be allowed to join the military. This bill is currently being discussed in Israel.

Gallant believes that at a time when the country is mired in wars on various fronts, such luxuries cannot be afforded to the people.

However, Netanyahu knows that Israel's current coalition government is held together by the right-wing conservative parties that support the bill. Therefore, Gallant's romantic talk is of no importance to Netanyahu.

But by removing Gallant, Netanyahu has given his ministry to a man with no military experience.

Israel Katz was Israel's foreign minister until two days ago, but now he has become the country's new defense minister. Compared to Yoav Gallant, he is more 'hawkish' and his ideas are also quite similar to his 'boss'.

When he was handed Israel's defense ministry, he vowed to 'achieve the goals of the war', including 'the most important moral obligation of the return of hostages, the elimination of Hamas in Gaza and the defeat of Hezbollah in Lebanon. '

Israel is currently fighting two wars that could engulf the rest of the Middle East. In such a situation, Israel Katz's lack of experience in military matters will arouse suspicions about Israel not only in the country but also abroad.

Yoav Gallant was the last minister in the Israeli federal cabinet who was not afraid to present his views to Netanyahu and easily confronted him.

This may also be one of the reasons why Netanyahu removed him from his cabinet.

Rumors had been swirling for months that Yoo Gallant was very close to being fired. However, it cannot be ignored that at the time he was removed from office, America was about to elect its new president.

Yoav Gallant had a slightly better relationship with US President Joe Biden, while Netanyahu had a cold relationship with the White House.

Netanyahu's firing of Yoo Gallant could be seen as another blow to the current government.

It would come as no surprise if the Israeli prime minister gives more weight to advice from President Donald Trump's team about war strategy.

After Gallant's dismissal, thousands of protesters took to the streets

However, this would not be the last time that Yoo Gallant was kicked out of the cabinet and did not somehow return to the world of politics. All this happens in politics.

Once before, in March 2023, Netanyahu fired Yoav Gallant as Defense Minister.

At the time, many senior military and former military officials, including Yoo Gallant, were unhappy with Netanyahu's controversial plans to overhaul the judicial system.

Against this background, when Netanyahu fired Yoav Gallant, thousands of people took to the streets and protested. The people demanded that Yoo Gallant be given back his post.

After violent protests, Netanyahu was forced to return Yoav Gallant to his post.

Last Tuesday, when the news of Yoav Gallant's dismissal as Defense Minister came to light, there were once again protests in the capital Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. But the scope of these protests was not so wide.

Yoav Gallant and Netanyahu belong to the same political party and it is likely that one day they will run against Netanyahu.

But at the moment, the dismissal of Yoo Gallant shows that Netanyahu is feeling strong.

Netanyahu is Israel's longest-serving prime minister and one of Israel's most successful political figures.

There is no doubt that today, like last year, they are the ones who make the final decision.
