Car saz accident: What is the reality of the viral photo of accused Natasha?
Rumors were also seen spreading on social media platforms and WhatsApp that the accused had been released.
The process of sharing fake news, videos and photos through artificial intelligence is now a common thing on social media around the world, but in this regard, a viral photo has been a topic of discussion on social media in Pakistan for the past few days.
A 60-year-old man, Imran Arif, and his 22-year-old daughter, Amina, were killed in a collision with a speeding vehicle in Karsaz area of Karachi on Monday, while the police arrested the driver named Natasha on the spot.
A case has been registered against Natasha under section 322, i.e. murder by reason, and the court has sent her to jail on judicial remand for 14 days.
After initial investigation, the police claimed that the accused was allegedly driving at a high speed, hence the incident.
After the video of the incident went viral on social media, people expressed their outrage. While people demanded that the accused be punished, some accounts shared information that had nothing to do with reality.
Rumors were also seen spreading on social media platforms and WhatsApp that the accused has been released and has gone to Dubai.
Before these speculations died down, a picture of Natasha went viral on social media in which the accused was shown standing outside a court along with her lawyers and she also made a 'Victory' sign with the fingers of both hands. is
Not only ordinary users but also the big journalists of Pakistan were seen sharing this picture on social media.
Well-known Pakistani journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir was also among those who shared this picture on social media.
Hamid Mir deleted his post after some time
He wrote in a post on 'X' (formerly Twitter) that 'Natasha Iqbal with Victory sign, who was defeated?'
However, after some time, he deleted his post and the reason for this was that the shared picture had nothing to do with reality.
Pakistani journalist Asma Shirazi also shared the same picture and wrote, "What else is insensitivity?" Justice itself is in the dock in this case.
He was also told by several users that the photo was fake after which he deleted his post saying 'sorry'.
This picture, which went viral on social media, was created with the help of artificial intelligence.
If you look carefully at this picture, you will see that right behind Natasha is the door of a building with the word 'Court' written in large English letters.
Looking at this picture, it looks like Natasha is standing outside the Supreme Court building in Islamabad. Here the question arises that why the case of Karachi will be heard in the Supreme Court of Islamabad?
In fact, the case is pending in a local court in Karachi, and he is currently in jail.
Asma Shirazi apologized and deleted her post
This is not the first time that an image created with the help of artificial intelligence has led to the spread of 'fake news'.
A similar picture went viral on Pakistani social media some time ago, in which a woman was shown standing with several security personnel pointing their guns at her.
It was being said on social media at that time that this photo was taken during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) protest, but this photo was also taken with the help of artificial intelligence.
Two important questions here are why people share such images on social media and how to recognize such images?
'Disinformation is not a problem of internet or technology'
Asad Baig, founder of Media Matters for Democracy, an organization that closely monitors Pakistan's media industry and social media, told the BBC that it is not an internet problem, nor is it a technology problem. This is actually a problem of human psychology.
Elaborating on his point, he adds that it is a problem of human psychology that "people have this idea in their minds that our justice system is bad."
Asad Baig further says that what people consider to be true, they always consider similar things to be true.
Not only common internet users but also journalists are being fooled by artificial intelligence images. In this regard, Asad Baig says, "First of all, we as journalists have to identify the things in which we show bias and then we have to fix them."
"When you control your own mind, then you will start to recognize things created by artificial intelligence."
How to recognize images created by artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence software needs training to generate any image and they get this training through pre-existing data.
According to BBC research, there are some human organs that are difficult to copy. For example, artificial intelligence-powered software is not adept at creating ears and hands accurately.
Asad Baig also seems to agree with this research. He says that 'artificial intelligence has not progressed much yet. If you pay attention to the details of the images created by artificial intelligence, it will not be difficult for you to recognize them.
For example, the background of these images will be different. The back view of the image will be blurry.
They also say that the images created by artificial intelligence are very 'smooth' meaning that if you have any marks on your face, they will not be visible in the images created by artificial intelligence.
"It looks like you put a filter on the picture."
Referring to the photos of Natasha and the lawyers created by artificial intelligence, he said, "If you look at the lawyers standing behind in this picture, you will see the similarity in their faces."
