Microsoft accuses Iranian hackers of hacking top US official's account
Hackers belonging to the Iranian regime tried to hack the account of a "high official" during the US presidential campaign in June, Microsoft researchers say.
A report released Friday said the violations were part of a growing effort by Iranian groups to influence the November U.S. presidential election.
The report follows recent statements by senior US intelligence officials that they have seen an increase in the use of Iran's secret social media accounts aimed at creating political instability in the United States.
Iran's U.N. mission in New York denied the allegations, saying in a statement to Reuters that its cyber capabilities are defensive and threats and that it has no plans to launch cyber attacks.
Responding to the allegations made in the Microsoft report, the mission added that the US presidential election is an internal matter in which Iran will not interfere.
